Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
